Tripod advice...

I'm looking for something that will support the weight of the Sigma 50-500 and camera, and also the Nikkor 105 macro and camera and full set of extension tubes (obv. not all at the same time! ).

Not really sure what I'm looking for, but any help appreciated!

Re: Tripod advice...

Pretty much anything I am always happy to save for the right stuff. I'm thinking I need one pretty soon, so a good strong one to tide me over, that doesn't cost much would be useful, if the only good ones cost a small mortgage! I'd probably resent spending more than about €150 though.

Re: Tripod advice...

Thanks for that link Azz - it's all a bit confusing I really don't 'get' tripods hehe... not sure how much the Bigma and D80 weigh, bearing in mind I'm hoping to get a D700 before hte year is out, so will have that weight on it too. Hmm... I do want something that'll stand the test of time.

Re: Tripod advice...

I've had a few tripods but am now using a Manfrotto 055XDB and am extremely pleased with the stability and versatility of it. I've got a Manfrotto 804RC2 head on it and cant fault it.

I use a Nikon D300 sat on it and have had the D700 on it with a 600mm lens on the end - never a problem.

I paid about £150 for both.

Re: Tripod advice...

I would second JR's suggestion, although personally I would go for the 055XPROB with the 808RC4 head. I looked at this combination when purchasing mine but found it was too heavy for what I wanted (I take mine out hiking with me and found the weight rather prohibitive so I opted for the lighter 190XPROB with the 804RC2 head). However for the gear you have mentioned I would go for th eheavier tripod.

Re: Tripod advice...

Thanks all - I will have a look around at prices etc - of course, the more I spend on this, the less I have to spend on D700 - or rather, the longer I have to save this could be a good thing, might stop me impulse buying when the prices are so high

Re: Tripod advice...

My suggestion in the other thread is an AWESOME tripod for the cash. Comparable with manfrotto.

I bought one after using brother in laws.

Sturdy as owt.

Would recommend one to anyone.
