Re: New Tripod arrives tomorrow

Having finally decided against another Benbo / Uniloc type (although I love them) for 'practical reasones' - I started looking for new manfrotto 190XPROB legs but when I set them up (being quite tall) I found that I'd have to use the center column up a lot.

So I then looked at manfrotto 055XPROB legs at they were taller and heavier but (costing more than the 190) it would mean that the head I had my eye on would put me over budget.

Then I stumbled accross the SLIK 700DX

Same weight, height and just as sturdy as the 055XPROB legs - I was so impressed I trawled the net and found that at the moment a lot of online places are throwing in the 700DX 3 way head for free plus if i want to add the Manfarotto head I fancied at a later date it'll fit OK.

Here's the blurb anyway

The Slik 700DX is a large professional tripod supplied with a heavy duty quality 3 way versatile head. The legs are manufactured from Slik's special alloy A.M.T (Aluminium, Magnesium and Titanium). This combines superb strength and rigidity with a reduced carrying weight compared to aluminium only. The Pro 700DX head is ideal for a large variety of photographic applications and is extremely versatile offering the photographer the widest range of positions for flexible compositions. For the money this kit is hard to beat!

Re: New Tripod arrives tomorrow

Well it arrived. I ordered it at midday yesterday from Hereford and it arrived here (Perth) by 11:00am. Very quick

Had a quick play - very pleased with it.

Especially like the way the majority of the central colum can be removed leaving just a little stubby bit under the collar so when you splay the legs it can go really low.

Off work tomorrow and I've got a few places nearby which I'd like to visit - so fingers crossed for the weather.
