Manfrotto 785B

Is the Manfrotto 785B a good tripod for Nikons?

Anything else under £50 worth considering?

Re: Manfrotto 785B

Azz depends on the camera and the actual tripod. I used a Manfrotto 17B on my Canon 400 - and it coped ok. But when I put my Nikon 300 on it - the pod was definitely struggling with the extra weight.

The other thing I did notice was with the heavier Nikon with a heavy lens, I found the Camera was unscrewing itself from the release plate when the camera was positioned in the portrait mode. granted only a bit at a time - but after a few changes from portrait to landscape - it was noticeably looser.

In the end I ditched that pod and have brought a much sturdier Manfrotto (the 055XDB with the 804RC2 head). I'm really pleased with it and have far more confidence in it - and in the locking plate mechanism

Re: Manfrotto 785B

Might be worth looking at something a tad sturdier Azz which would probably put Manfrotto out of your budget.

Not sure how much you can get one for but I'd certainly recommend the Slik 700 DX PRO Tripod.
