Lord Bishop Rocks

Not sure about some of these, some I like, some I don't. I wasn't happy with the kit I was using on the night, it just didn't seem to work as I wanted it to, I was too far away etc etc. Still, got a couple that were OK ish.

Re: Lord Bishop Rocks

Nice set Laura, did you enjoy them? a friend sent me a link to their MySpace a while ago, and I thought they were good

I like the first, and the black and whites of 4 and 9, I'd prefer it if they were totally black and white, but that's just personal preference, good set x x x

Re: Lord Bishop Rocks

Yeah, I could do some properly mono - I just like playing with gradients etc at the moment

They're great fun - I've seen them here before, but didn't get pics then! They're not brilliant, but anything they lack in talent they more than make up for in energy and fun!

Re: Lord Bishop Rocks

Got to be honest and say I can't rave over these. You have a record of the evening, but it all looks very static and doesn't convey any excitement and rock and roll. The colour looks slightly odd to me, with a flash blasted at the subject standing still crammed on a cluttered stage. I like rock/pop and theatrical photography, but you sort of have to convey the stage presence, the coloured lighting, the axe man in some crazy pose that you could only ever do in spandex!

I'm sorry once again to be the only dissenting voice, but a look through the music mags shows some great work on stage...and I'll balance this by saying Laura you do some great work in macro that I haven't got a chance of achieving. I'm sure it was a great night and you had great fun, sometimes we love our pictures because we remember all that. But to someone else looking without the emotional cues, it doesn't come over the same.

Re: Lord Bishop Rocks

No, I totally agree BC I do a fair bit of music photography, and I do normally get stuff I'm happy with - but it had to be said, I found it nearly impossible to get any shots with any sort of energy, because this show the band didn't have any stage presence or energy. In fact, the only time he did pull any shapes was picture 5, and that's about the best I could get of him - as he basically just stood on stage and sang I do hope we see him for a 3rd time, and he's back to like he was on the first time!

I do appreciate your honesty, I just want to assure you that it's not because I don't know what I want to get in terms of 'rock and roll' shots etc, just purely because this was an especially flat and lifeless band to work with! :/

Re: Lord Bishop Rocks

These are some earlier shots I did of other bands BC - not sure if you'd seen them, think I posted them when you were away from the forum for a while I'd really value your C&C on these too

Re: Lord Bishop Rocks

I know Laura, it comes over that way. Tbh, the dude looks like he has little room to do much anyway. I reckon some close ups in stage lighting, maybe 800 iso and that nifty fifty. I know you are a competent photographer and you prefer the honesty, will look forward to seeing some shots next time. x

Re: Lord Bishop Rocks

800 ISO?!! I was on the highest it would go to - which I think is 6400 - at times, and it was still coming out black - even with the 50mm at f1.8 the lighting was horrendous - the autofocus would hardly work because it couldn't find anything to focus on. Hate doing anything in that place. Also, I couldn't get much closer unfortunately. It was definitely not the best gig for photography purposes. Will keep at it though! And yes, absolutely all feedback is appreciated!
