Saluki love

I share my life with my beautiful Saluki....

few shots i was proud of .... but they make me ache for a more professional kit to get even better results... One day ... when i win the lottery maybe

First taken when I still had my lovely old lady with us ... ( see they can be small furry friendly - I have rats too and all have lived in harmony - with the right nature/temp etc, so long as people use common sense and are careful it can be done

Not the best of quality but I love the contrast of my girl and her shadow....

Re: Saluki love

Simply Stunning.

I'd love to see her run (both of them for that matter)

Being a 3 dog & 4 cat owner - I understand the prey drive problems that need to be overcome.

Here is where I fall flat on my face - when I bought the camera a few years ago i was insistant that the shutter speed had to be good/fast as I would be taking pic's of animals mainly, rats ( speedy little things ) the dogs - sighthounds mainly and the horses - competing and just general shots ( often movement)

But.... to say the shutter speed is utterly pants would be an understatement ...

to give you an idea...

Bad weather didn't help and lack of any decent type of zoom ...

However - this was not soo bad. . . .

not sure I can do anything about it though - I think I just need to seriously upgrade if I want ( what I wanted in the beginning ! ) better shutter speed etc ..

Re: Saluki love

I think "point and shoot" cameras are great and are getting better. If you're chosen subject is something that stays still then you're at an advantage.

Landscapes are fine but Sighthounds in full flight - you've picked a tricky one.

Some point and shoot cameras do have 'fast' shutter speeds but they may struggle to allow enough light in (at that speed) to get the results you're after.

Look at some of the doggy pics on here. I have a DSLR - my 'still' shots are OK but my speedy dog pics aren't that sharp. If I take a VERY fast dog picture (which my camera can do) - it's dark because my lens doesn't have an aperture wide enough to get the light in quick enough.

Some folk on here have lenses with really wide apertures (fast lenses) but they can be very expensive.

That said - I've seen some fab pics with all manner of cameras so keep going and lets have more.

Re: Saluki love

She`s breath taking and your oldie looked like a sweetheart too

I think the first pic is my favourite, seeing them together with little bun and so nicely framed by the flowers, such a sweet and very pretty photo

Re: Saluki love

You have the feel and skill but as you say not the equipment, consolation is, save hard and you will get the equipment but you can't buy the talent nor the eye for a good shot so you will get there when you can afford to.

Like most of these including some of the action ones because if you look at them with the eye of a dog lover (particularly hounds) the blur is not that important. Of course, as a photographer you want the shots to be sharp but as I said, you will get there.
