Re: Goldfinch at takeoff poor!!

Heriedax

Just a couple of things you might find helpful, anyway its what I do.

First set up a bird feed station
Next buy a wireless remote shutter release, they can be bought off e-bay for around £10/£20
Then set up your camera on a tripod at about 3 mtrs away focused on the feed table/station
Make sure it is set to continuous shoot the more FPS the better.
Retire to a reasonable distance I go into my office about 30 ft away
Then wait and you may get fantastic closeup shots.

A trial version of the Noiseware software that Bob mentioned on here before, I was impressed by the results of his images so thought I would give it a go.

I had to use ISO 1600 at Crufts in the main ring so the images were a little noisy and wanted to try it on that.

Re: Goldfinch at takeoff poor!!

Thank you, will have a deep look at that, it seems impressive.

In camera there always seems to be a choice between low noise and detail, if the camera is set to give low noise at say 1600 iso then the detail is soft and sometimes almost non existent on the other had those cameras that give good detail at 1600 iso also suffer noise. It will be interesting to see if this software overcomes this problem

PS - did you use standard or the professional

Re: Goldfinch at takeoff poor!!

Zounds, can you give me a link to neat image please, I have the trial version of the one Greyhawk suggested but that is only for 15 days. It works very well and, depending on cost, I may buy it but will give others a try as well. It is not needed often but if it is then it can make the difference between loosing an otherwise good shot and saving it.

Because I like you take birds one often has to crop a bit too hard and then enlarge, any noise there is is enlarged as well, not sure if you use this tool (noise filter) as a finishing tool or before you start work on the image, will test and find out.

Re: Goldfinch at takeoff poor!!

I work on the finished product, because trial doesn't allow you to work large sizes, but it is an indefinite trial - and is also a photoshop addon so it works through that too.
