Tamron Lens

Any one own or have a view on these lens. Had one years and years ago and I was not impressed but they may be a different story now, so any comment would be welcome.

I am looking for a wide end zoom something like 10 - 25 although I have seen a 10 - 50. So what do people think about wide end glass with a bigger range are the shorter range lens better or does it make no difference?

I think it may depend on which of their range you buy - so if you buy any of their budget lens, don't expect super quality.

Their f2.8 lens seem to be nice

Azz is right, Tamron seem to do a budget range and then some better glass. Reasonable price wide glass is the Sigma 10-20mm or the 12-24mm EX. I have the latter and it seems good and better corrected. Tokina also do a 12-24mm. Build quality seems to vary with different lenses as does whether you get a good or bad one. Seems have to buy from camera manufacturers own brand to get more consistent quality.

I was look up to £500 and had thought about the Sigma 12 - 24, Pentax do a digital only one of the same range and I suppose I would be best to go for that. I am still confused if a lens designed for the digital camera will actually be 10 - 24 or will it still be 35mm lengths? If you see what I mean.

Personally I'd avoid Tamron....but thats personal preference, I'd rather save up and get a better lens as I had one once and it was RUBBISH!

The Tamron 90mm macro lens I have got the silver award in a popular photo mag not so long ago, it came second to the Nikon 102mm macro lens.

Have to say in the past I have had problems with Tamron lens but then again I have had a couple of Canon shockers too so I guess it is a case of if the lens does not perform to the required standard then return it and try again. Having said that I think I will look at the Pentax and Sigma range on the theory better the devil you know.
