In this tutorial im going to show you how to achieve beautiful eyes which will enhance any portrait.
Before
After
Step 1.
The most important thing you can do to acheive wonderful eyes is to photograph them correctly. This is where it all starts. Make sure the eyes are well lit and wide open. Try to avoid shooting at or below eye level. Shoot roughly from forehead height. This means the model will not be looking down or dropping their head to look into the lens. It also prevents shadows falling across the eyes.
Always make your subjects eyes the focus point
Step 2.
Open up your image and duplicate the layer. Make your new layer active by selecting it in your layers panel.
Step 3.
In your filter menu select
other>high pass. This will turn your image grey. Now depending on your image and how strong you want to make the effect, slide the radius either up or down. As a rough guide, the more portrait you see, the weaker but darker the effect will be.
Step 4.
Now use your lasso tool to select each eye.
Hint: hold down the shift key to select more than one area of the image. Right click
inside the selected area, and choose the
Invert Selection option. Now delete and use the earser tool to erase as close to the pupil as possible.
Step 5.
Flat your image and duplicate your layer again. You can now begin to dodge and burn areas of the eye to make it stand out more.
