Hetton Lake

Had a walk round Hetton park today but dark was already setting in and ice was on paths and the small lake was frozen...

Re: Hetton Lake

Hello Owen.

I have got that lens, but for canon. what is it you aren't sure of? I was advised to boost the ISO at the extremes and the images are sharp when i do. I know very little but am interested.

Re: Hetton Lake

Does look a little soft around the eye, what was the shutter speed as this may be the reason not the lens.

Re: Hetton Lake

It's hard to tell where the focus is, did you blur out the water around the bird in PS? It can be pretty hard to get the detail out of those black areas in the birds feathers without over exposing it. Do you shoot in Raw? perhaps you could increase the exposer on the dark parts of the duck... Is it duck? lol. I dunno.. The effect of the water is cool but I'm not sure about that orange bit that seems to spike out from the duck, perhaps you could break that up in photoshop as well..

I like photoshop, can you tell? lol

Re: Hetton Lake

Getting cold owen that's for sure. I had a look and took a few shots with that lens. Went for the Canon 55-200 instead. Much better imo.

The wave trail and reflection is cool. Like Stano has said, when opened large the bird looks a tad soft.

Re: Hetton Lake

how can the duck be a tad soft ?
the water at that range would have to be as well

The focus to me looks like it has hit the head reflection making the bird a tad soft..... Don't start pretending you know what you're on about because I don't hahahahaha

Depending on the aperture the focal plane could be as little as a cm, add into that the angle that the shot was taken then working out the exact same plane in the water as the eye would be extremely difficult, so saying that the water in the same plane is in focus is nigh on impossible.
