Macro with a standard lens ?

I looked at prices for macro lenses, now I don't usually take these kind of shots, anyways, I had a go with the Canon kit lens, the flowers were 10 inches away from the lens, the camera was on manual so was the focus, let me know what you think.

Flower size was 3 inches.

Re: Macro with a standard lens ?

3 and 4 don't work for me I'm afraid, they look a bit blown, and the backgrounds are rather distracting, but 1 and 2 are not bad at all! While the backgrounds could still be a bit better, the flowers are lovely and the detail excellent. Well done. It's not eeasy doing macro shots without a macro lens, so you've done well!

Re: Macro with a standard lens ?

While I agree the 2nd two are blown, that can be a good look too - and actually prefer them to the first two

Re: Macro with a standard lens ?

Well done.
I think what a macro lens would have for you was throw the background out more for you - mine does anyway!
My dad has a screw on macro thing that goes on the end of his lens which he seems very pleased with - especially as it only cost £25!
