Your Unmarked Grave

So, I could not resist uploading one of my shots from yesterday. This is one out of four shots that I'm really happy with. Where this is the one I'm least satisfied with of the four. Saving the best ones for my website.

This was my first band shoot, and I must say I'm pretty stoked on how it turned out! Not a 100% satisfied with the lighting, but I like the shot overall.

Shooting bands/groups is very different from shooting snowboarding which I usually shoot, but this is something I really, really want to get good at.

Would really like some feedback on this one from you guys who have been doing this for a while.

Righty, well, I've not been doing this sort of photography for a while, however, I have read a fair bit about it as it interests me. I would say, the lighting is very good - although in some parts it seems to be making the skin look a little waxy? Maybe there's something you could do in photoshop with that?

I would have gone for a greater DOF - looks from the EXIF like you went for 2.2 - I would have gone for 11 or so. You need all the faces well in focus... if only some members are in sharp focus, it makes them look more important than the others - and that will just upset people! I know this much from personal experience - being a drummer (the poor one who everyone blurs in photos! ).

Also - I would have included the rest of the legs, or even less. This chopping at the knees makes me want to see more of the legs and the feet - get the whole body in - or go from the waist up perhaps.

And, just a little thing - the grass/weed in the left corner - is really distracting for me at least - and could be cloned out?

Anyway - you asked for critique! I hope I wasn't too harsh. I'm sure someone can better it anyway!

I agree about the DOF though. If I was a blurry one at the back I would be slightly offended!

I like it very much - it's a real slick shot! But I do agree about not everyone being in focus, if they're part of the band they'd wanna be visible as much as the ones at the front.

Great stuff otherwise tho
