Which is best? Photoshop CS2 or Elements 6?

I am currently using Photoshop 6 which I am guessing is rather old.
I have been offered CS2 or Elements 6.
I know that Elements 6 is a cut down version but as it is more recent, is it going to be better than CS2?
I don't do anything fancy so don't need anything too complicated.

Re: Which is best? Photoshop CS2 or Elements 6?

Well I could only imagine CS2 is more versatile but Elements 6 more user friendly. Isn't the biggest advantage of Photoshop layers, which are not available in Elements. I could be wrong, but I thought it was something like that.
Kit 1
Nikon D700
Nikon 28-70 f2.8 ED AF-S (The Beast)
Nikon 80-200mm f2.8
Tamron 24-135 SP
Nikon 300mm f4
Nikon 70-300mm VR
Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 (DX)
Nikon 28-105mm (great walkaround on D700!)
Lensbaby Composer
Nikon 20-35mm f2.8
Nikon SB800
Kit 2
Nikon D300
Nikon 20mm f2.8
Nikon 24mm f2.8
Nikon 28mm f2.8
Nikon 35mm f2
Nikon 50mm f1.4
Nikon 85mm f1.8
Micro-Nikon 60mm f2.8
Micro-Nikon 105mm f2.8
Tamron 28-75mm f2.8

Re: Which is best? Photoshop CS2 or Elements 6?

I think CS2 came out in about 2001, so not that recent, but very comprehensive, whereas Elements is more up to date, user friendly, and has all the basic tools you need . Bob swears by Elements, so he is a good guy to ask what it offers.

Also download a trial version http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/ of the latest version Elements 7, see what you think xx

Are there seriously no layers in Elements?

I have PS8/CS3/CS4 and Elements 6/7 - quite frankly I never touch Elements anymore. (It's not even a stripped down version of PS).

but is CS2 too out of date or does it still have more to offer than Elements 6?

Re: Which is best? Photoshop CS2 or Elements 6?

CS2 will be more powerful than Elements 6, and TBH if I had the choice of the two, it's what I would go for

Here is some more info, free trial link etc, try them both and see which you prefer http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tuto...otoshop-9.html

If all you are going to do is crop , resize, tidy up a little Elements is great, but if you want to really start to play with your images, CS2 is probably better.
