Herstmonceux Castle Reflection

I didn't go inside this castle, only around the outside, it's quite an interesting place and has an observatory at the entrance too.

Re: Herstmonceux Castle Reflection

Thanks

It was a windy day and the lake was very ripply, ruining the reflection, I stood and waited for around 30 minutes and then the wind died down for just enough time to take the shot

Re: Herstmonceux Castle Reflection

A nice shot and well done you for having the patience to wait around for the conditions to change - something I'm not very good at.

It looks like an amazing location - I bet you could spend hours there.

I might have given the reflection a bit more space at the foot of the picture ??

PS

More of a question than an comment..........

The blues look a little 'electric' but I would like to know if this really is the case. I bought a new screen a few weeks ago and I'd I'm not convinced yet that I'm getting to see shots as they really are.

Re: Herstmonceux Castle Reflection

Thanks Phil,

I don't normally have that kind of patience either, but me and my friend made the decision that no matter what, we wouldn't leave one place and go to another until we had every shot we wanted, and it worked really well, we took more shots that we have done before, and got some shots we would normally have missed.

As for the blue, it is a little blue, I can't remember but I used either a polariser or an ND to get a longer exposure so 'flatten' the water a bit. As for the space on the reflection, would have been nice, but that view is 17mm on a FF sensor, so I really was maxed out on the angle of view

Alan.
I'm in work now and have made a point of looking at this one and a few others on my PC here. The colours are far more natural here.

I'm really annoyed with my new screen at home as it's putting me off working on any of my own own pictures as I won't be able to gauge the colours.

Re: Herstmonceux Castle Reflection

Yeah I know what you mean, I have a new HP 8730w, and the luminance is way over the top, I can lower it so it's acceptable, but the chroma is ridiculous, it's on it's lowest setting, and it still looks like the colours are way too over-saturated, it's horrible. I might send it back.

Can u calibrate your monitor, or lower the chroma, or is it just the blue? Do you have (I am sure you probably tried this but I will ask) a temperature setting, It might be set to some daft 'cool' setting or something?

Re: Herstmonceux Castle Reflection

It's an HP 2159 which seems to have a selection of presets such as 'photo', 'text', 'gaming', 'movie' as well as a 'custom' setting which I can obviously fiddle about with.
The pre-set settings vary a LOT in terms of colour but the one that seems about right is very soft to the point that text appears fuzzy.
