Sigma flash

This is the flash unit that's dedicated to DSLR's, it's half the price of Canon's one and has the same spec.

Here's the results, taken with a zoom lens at a distance of 30mtrs approx, it was a public hall and the lights were very dim.

Re: Sigma flash

Also consider the Metz offering...

It has a built in flash for fill in - when you're bouncing off the ceiling!!

This is the one I use - fully dedicated - A-TTL - the whole package - and better value than Canon!

Canon EOS 40D
Canon 10-22mm EFS
Canon 17-85mm EFS

Re: Sigma flash

The Sigma doesn't actually have the same performance as the Canon (as you would expect). I found an interesting review comparing the two here:

Photonotes

The Metz offering performs slightly better than the Sigma, but the price differrence between that and the Canon isn't as great.

Personally I rarely buy third party accessories (I don't have any at the moment). They are never quite as good and can have problems with compatability for newer models (though the USB on the Metz is an interesting idea, which tries to get over the compatability issues, I guess only time will tell if it actually works).
Kit 1
Canon 20D
Canon 28-135 3.5-5.6 IS USM
Canon 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM
Canon 100 2.8 USM Macro
Canon 10-22mm 3.5-4.5
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 85mm 1.8

Re: Sigma flash

I read the article GH and don't agree with some of it, I've had the Sigma 3 years now with no probs, yes, you have to be carefull wich type of flash unit you use with a DSLR, using certain ones can severly damage your camera.

Summing up, the Sigma was £150 at the time, whereas the Canon was nearly £300, I don't think paying another £150 for Canon's name on theirs justifies the extra money, also, I wanted a viewfinder extention for the 350D, this is just a small rubber that goes over the eyepiece so your face is'nt against the back of the camera when taking shots, I payed £18 for it, a rip-off, because it's a Canon accessory.

Re: Sigma flash
