Waterfalls

Tried my hand at photographing waterfalls with the water all soft and flowing, here are my best attempts! Still need to practice I think!

Re: Waterfalls

It's not all that easy - so these are a good first try - practice will help of course - personally I think 3 is the best, certainly my favourite.

Re: Waterfalls

Your right Zounds, It looks easy when you see other people on here doing it! But when you have the camera in your own hand its a very different matter!

Re: Waterfalls

It's a tough thing to get right.

The first two (where have I seen these before LOL) are a tad burned out but you can expect to get that a lot.

Speed wise the third and fourth a bit better. I prefer number 4 as you've picked up the leaves moving (another un-avoidable) in number 3.

PS

It's a great place but the thing with waterfalls esp. up at the hermitage under the trees is that you've just got to keep working up or down through your speeds till you get what you want. As soon as you've got it right - the light changes and it all goes wrong again.

Re: Waterfalls

Agree on the 3/4 debate I hadn't noticed the leaves moving in 3- the water seems better - but the overall shot in 4 is better IMRO.

Re: Waterfalls

Really like the last two, was hoping to share some Fall pics too, but mine were too busy, yours look lovely and quiet.

I think they are brilliant for your first try, as they aren''t easy to photograph xxx

Re: Waterfalls

Thanks guys! It was a lot harder than I thought! Phil your so right, when I got the settings to give an ok picture I thought, one more step and its gonna be better, then the light Changes!!! A few angry words later and its back to the beginning! as for the actual settings! I have no idea!! I just kept fiddling with the dials!! I was on manual and that's all I can be certain on! lol

Re: Waterfalls

An ND (Neutral Density) filter can come in handy for photographing moving water.

Your shutter speed determines the amount of blur but with an ND reducing the amount of light you can go a bit longer on your shutter speeds before the water burns out to white.
