Some shots of the kids

Took a load of shots of the kids today.
Here are a few of my favourites:

I tried experimenting with colours with this one to reflect my moody son's moody mood!

This is my barking mad son:

Bundle!

Hubby thinks this one is rubbish but I like it. Its gone a bit grainy for some reason but that doesn't bother me.

Re: Some shots of the kids

Tell your husband that he is mad!! That last image is fab!!

I love the way you've composed it and arranged the kids - it's fun, its funky, it's modern, and its a keeper - exactly how it is; flaws and all!

I'm impressed with how willing you are to experiment and improvise - that is half the battle in producing good photos....you're certainly getting there.

Great work

Re: Some shots of the kids

Good pictures, love the last, could do with a little work in Pp to bring out the best. Will be interested to see what sorts of shots you get up to away from that wall!

PS. Do you want to sell that wall and the light that comes from the door?

PPS. You may want to consider using something like a bedsheet or white card as a reflector to the right of photo to bounce some light back at your subject. I'd be tempted to experiment with distance so you get some fill in but not too much so as to lose the mood.

Could you explain a little more please.
What is 'fill in' is that gettng more light onto them?
and how would I be positioning the sheet. Hanging down vertically?
Thanks!

Re: Some shots of the kids

Hmmm....ok, fill in is a secondary light source less dominant than the main lighting. You could use something like a flash on lower power or just something like a reflector to bounce back light. Next time the kids are there, or try it with an object, a reflector will add some light into the areas that are in shadow and 'fill in'. It can stop the extremes of light and dark (shadow). You would have to use it carefully as part of the interest for your photos are in fact the shadows but at the right distant you could get it just right.

Your reflector is generally white to reflect back the same light colour as it receives. However some people may use gold to add 'warmth' to skin tones, colours will introduce a colour cast that will show up more on the image than to the eye.

Professionals use proper refectors held on stands or by assistants. 'Us lot' except maybe DaisyChains (!) would use a board, card or sheet held by whatever you have available, yes, hanging down and probably facing straight at the kids on the side or more likely at about 45 degrees in front of them. Another option would be flash fired through diffusers.
