Windows 7 - Pre-order bargain price

Sorry, should have flagged this up a few days back but still available many places.

Windows 7 is the replacement to Vista, and is meant to be a good platform well tested in beta and considered by many to be better. It launches later this year and of course will sell at the usual Micro$oft prices of 'bloomin' expensive'. Look how much it is to buy a copy of XP or vista.

What they have done now is give retailers a number of advanced copies they can order to be supplied in late October. For example I ordered my copy of Windows 7 Professional from Amazon a few days ago at £89. This is probably £100 cheaper than the typical selling price will be after the pre-order copies dry up. Windows 7 Home is selling at £49 at Argos. These prices are only whilst they use up the pre-order slots they have, some retailers charge you now, others on delivery. If you want one at this price you need to buy quickly (apparently). PC world, Tesco, others have these avilable on their websites. You can't physically buy it yet anywhere.

It's a bargain price for an operating system but of course not everyone wnats to change and there may be comptability issues with any peripherals you may have, scanners, cameras, printers. Most people are assuming if it works with Vista it will work with 7.

Re: Windows 7 - Pre-order bargain price

Thanks for the heads up - but I'm scared of changing... I still miss '98! I have XP at the moment, and hoping to keep it until... well, forever!

Re: Windows 7 - Pre-order bargain price

I paid £64 for Vista (64bit) and that wasn't a pre-order, so I'm sure the etailers will discount w7 when it comes out anyway (the rrp is £79 - think vista was more than that? .

PC world I think is the cheapest pre order place at £45 just make sure your pc has the specs to run it:

A PC with these minimum recommended specifications:
  • 1GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1GB RAM (32-bit) / 2GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Re: Windows 7 - Pre-order bargain price

Can't find anywhere still at that old price. They have either put the price up or they are out of stock.
Comet are holding the new price for the rest of the year, so no hurry now. I'll sit back and wait and see if it is as good as the hype before getting it.

Re: Windows 7 - Pre-order bargain price

They'll always be offers on software/os's (maybe not as low as the pre-order tho) my copy of vista was only £64 when I got it and it wasn't a pre-order. I waited a year for the problems to be ironed out before getting it

Re: Windows 7 - Pre-order bargain price

Some people are so fed up with Vista that they may not want to wait a year! Some of the professional versions still command a high price and certainly don't retail at the £84 (89 less a small voucher I had) I have my 7 Professional for !

Re: Windows 7 - Pre-order bargain price

Vista was actually pretty good to me

If you think Vista was bad, don't hold any hope for W7 - it is basically vista repackaged
