Apart from reading the link The question raised about amateur photographers being boring? I think far from it. So many times its the amateur that happens to be in the right place at the right time to get that photo. Of course there are holiday snap amateurs and serious amateurs (the word amateur meaning unpaid) yet the standard can equal professionals.
Its the average photographer that can reflect what day to day living in the present time for those in the future, whereas in the past it was only the rich could afford cameras and generally only took photos of specific events.
There could be a case raised about professional photographers being unwilling to learn/try new things with a camera as they can tend to specialise in certain subject or get set in their ways, whereas Joe Bloggs, if photography is a main hobby or otherwise, is always willing to learn more.
