The dogs on 35mm!

Had an old Kodak 35mm 400UC film in the fridge for about 2 years! Never got round to using it, had a day at home last weekend so stuck it in my dad's 25 year old Zenith EM, this camera is like a Tank! Doesnt even have thru the lens metering, you have to line up a neadle with a metal eye then manually set exposure! All taken with the Helios 58mm f2 lens that these cameras came with, most of the shots taken wide open. I actually still like the look of film, and started teaching myself photography with this camera when I was 14, brings back memories!

Re: The dogs on 35mm!

Sounds like great fun to use! Must resurrect my old Canon AE1 as well!

I love some of these shots - and adore the vintage feel you get with older cameras

Re: The dogs on 35mm!

I had a Zenith EM years ago, quite a good buy at the time and up against the Practika for roughly the same price. That version of the Zenith used a selenium exposure meter but it worked well and a year or two later came out with a TTL version in black. They were dead strong a great value, the Helios lens may not perform best at f2 but it was a good performer for the money. I was so excited when I got my first SLR which I think was about £60 around 1977/78. The Zenith EM featured auto stop down aperture which you can't belive now, but it's lesser brother the E, before taking a picture you had to stop down to f8 or whatever before opening it up again to see through the viewfinder to compose your next shot. The E also had a lesser lens. However, the Russians did some good value stuff at the time, an EM with long telephoto lens in a case, the Photosniper, and a great rangefinder that I loved, the Zorki 4K. Wish I still had that.

I had an AE1 and AE1P years ago too. The P was a second body to my Canon T90 after I had my first dabble with Nikon but couldn't afford the lenses.

Makes me smile how film is a novelty here for so many You would have to wait a week or two for the results in 'those' days, so much depended on the processor and half the prints were rejects.
