Patch's Challenge #7

Because I've had several folks request that I continue Patch's Challenge I'm post another totally unedited photo I took today on a ride to several waterfalls. It was overcast so you might try a white balance adjustment, I did in my edited version. I backed off a bit to give those who believe they'd like to crop a chance to do so. The building are actually abandoned restrooms at the falls. Still, there's a lot to play with here. Silly me adjusted my D90 for Sepia monochrome and forgot to change from RAW mode. Of course none of those photos came out the way I'd planned. Have fun with the edit. -Bob

Re: Patch's Challenge #7

Funny you should mention duck food Zoundz because I've been looking for that in pet stores for hours to no avail. Guess I'll revert to using Ritz Crackers. LOL

Re: Patch's Challenge #7

First attempt at this kind of thing! Had to be a very quick job as I have small hungry children waiting for their lunch!
I cropped, changed to black and white, fiddled with brighness and contrast.
Then for a bit of fun I added a mysterious face in the window!
I copied a duplicate window first then pasted it back over the top of the face and faded it until I had the right balance of face / window.
I then also darkened the other window panes a bit to to match.
Finally, I had never heard of a vignetty thingy until I saw them mentioned on here yesterday and thought I should have ago at that. No idea how to do one properly but had a go with a black layer and the oval tool.

Right, now I had better go and make that lunch!

Should you wish a video tutorial on how to easily use a controlled vignetting technique send me your e-mail address so I can attach the file & return it to you. - Bob I'm at bobmielke@fastmail.fm

Re: Patch's Challenge #7

I knew you all would have fun with this shot. The deep dark woods can become so mysterious with the proper treatment. So far I love everything posted. The original has so much character that conversion to B&W beckons. Good job!

I'll go ahead and post my edits so they might give you ideas for a different path. This challenge was a lot of fun for me, delving into the world of texture screens.
