Patch's Challenge #6

Here's a fun back yard scene with lots of possibilities. All of you that have participated have some wonderful renditions of the original posted photo. I look forward to seeing what you do with this shot. Remember, have fun.

Re: Patch's Challenge #6

Since these challenges are geared toward beginners can you give us a clue how you accomplished the results? Thanks

Re: Patch's Challenge #6

Photoshop.

Night for day achieved by
Img - adjustments - levels create extreme shade and highlight
Img - adjust - Hue and saturate (colourise) - 220 blue
Create a selection mask for the sky and building (save selection) and over lay a layer on dark blue to black gradient.. Use layer darken (or multiply whichever works best)
Moon behind the tree using same selection mask filter- render - lens flare
Merge all layers
Filter artistic - smudge stick
for that moonlight painting effect.

This has given a pinkish hue to the moonlight, I quite like, but you could get rid of that by running it all through img adjustments hue saturate colourise again.

Re: Patch's Challenge #6

This challenge idea is steadily dying so this will be my last challenge. I wanted the look of a fantasy window into a strange and wonderful outdoor paradise. My crop was intended to provide a gateway to that world.

Re: Patch's Challenge #6

I'm new here, so didn't know that these challenges were dying. It seemed like a good idea to me and was interested to see what other people would make of my adaptation and what they would try...

But I can concede that it is disappointing to receive no feedback at all for my effort and no explanation of other's techniques so that I could try them for myself.

You don't say how you achieved your result.

Re: Patch's Challenge #6

The whole purpose for me starting these challenges was to give beginner & expert a chance to edit photos in a variety of subject matter. For example, not everyone has a waterfall or beach near them. If you look at the numbers since the first challenge the participation has dwindled so far it's obvious few are interested in continuing this thread.

Re: Patch's Challenge #6

A shame. I only just happened on them, but perhaps someone will set up something similar?

I would like to see them continued, I've not participated lately as I've been offline. I do hope they continue.

Well, I think it would be a shame if you stopped. I personally have been on holiday for the last couple of weeks, thats all that has stopped me. I have every intention of catching up.
