When approached for your pictures

I had Flickr mail today from a guy on Flickr (funnily enough) who was wondering If I would allow him to use a couple of my photographs.

It reads like this.........

Charge a fee.
If he is going to use your pictures for advertising his business he will be able to claim it back, or most of it, as advertising expenses.

So make your fees excessive. How much is the Canon EOS 1DS Mark III???

If he wants to purchase the copyright then add the cost of a couple of expensive lenses as well

Don't sell your work cheap.

Remember there is a world of difference in price if someone wants your photos against you trying to sell them

I'd say it depends on whether they make money or not and how I feel about them myself? Maybe get a credit link back to your site?

I think that I'd go for Azz's choice first, may help you to sell photo's in the future if he credits your flickr page or ask him what he would offer rather than asking an extortionate sum.

Offer to put together a package for him to furnish his site - also take the opportunity to agree on repeat business. I occasionally give images away (but with copyright reserved), but for all others I charge accordingly.

He's not selling any pictures through his site.

It's just he wants a few images 'on' the site to illustrate some of the mountains and ridges that his 'guiding' venture covers.

He is promoting his business using your photos SO CHARGE HIM HEAVILY

Business is business don't let others persuade you otherwise, as I said before he will claim your fees against tax.

Think of it this way- how much did your gear cost to buy- how much time has it taken for you to get and edit your photos? I think you will be mad not take this into consideration. Why let him have something for nothing unless you owe him a favour or is a friend.

It is NOT a question of him selling your photos he is PROMOTING his business with the aid of your photos, get your business hat on. What would it cost him to have a professional photographer to go and take the same shots? Answer several hundreds of pounds. he is trying to do it on the cheap.

I understand all that Bazza but there's plenty of people who are happy to provide a few pictures free of charge in return for a link.

Depends if you want a resume/portfolio link etc - how much publicity do you need?

Free with links/copyright if starting out, if established then charge.

Fair enough.....Think I'd agree with that.
