Not received payment

I recently did some work for a company, that work is to a value of over £300 and the company have stopped communicating with me and said we will get a cheque to you, but i have never received anything, i have emailed them and will be calling them tomorrow but they have been ignoring my emails

How can i get my money, or do i chalk it up to experience and start charging up front from now on??

This has really upset me as i need the money, this would have been what i needed to clear the last off my credit card last month and was relying on it!

Re: Not received payment

You could write to them stating unless payment is made within 14 days you will be proceeding for the money through the small claims court.

I believe through a quick google up to £300 will cost £30 but you can claim that back.

hope it works out, and yes if you need the money [as you do as a business] take a deposit and don't hand over anything untill monies have been paid in full.

Re: Not received payment

Cool let us know how it goes...

Sometimes better to send a letter using recorded mail as this proves they received it.

Re: Not received payment

Things happen to make us think.

And this one is to re think your payment system so when the big one comes like thousand or more pounds you wont be ripped off cause your system will be in place..

A learning curve of life.

Re: Not received payment

I'm with Azz don't get official with out talking face to face with them first! I would give you contact at the company a call telling them you will pick up the cheque sometime this week and ask what day is best? if you get no reply contact them again (give it 24hours) telling them you will be there to collect on Friday morrning. did you draw up a contract? or put anything down on paper? e.g. quote. take a deposit next time and NEVER hand over the finished product with out payment in full!

good luck Sam and let us know how it goes!

Re: Not received payment

It is difficult to meet them face to face if they are ignoring you, think as they have placed themselves out of reach a signed for letter asking for payment within 7 days or you will take action in the small claims court is the way to go. You will not after all wish to deal with them again so upsetting them is not a problem.

Re: Not received payment

Thanks guys, i am going to send them a letter recorded delivery... i have all the work on my email system, all agreed by the director of the company as it is her i have been talking to.

I have basically said that she has 7 days after receiving the letter to pay me in full or i will be going to the small claims court.

For work in future i will be taking a deposit! I know it will put some people off but i can't afford to get burnt by people not paying when i put so much time into it!
