A few Macro

Havnt dabbled much with Macro photography. My closest macro lens (normal mount) was a 1:2 Sigma EX DG 28mm. I've shot a few time's w/ a reverse mounted Pentax 35-70mm kit lens in the past, but just really goofing off.
Finally got a 1:1 in the Micro Nikkor 60mm.
Must say, it's bloody hard...(hand holding...). just trying to shoot in an awkward position, keeping steady, composing, etc, etc, etc..is a handful...

anyway, here's some I shot from the weekend..

they all belong to this set on my Flickr..

Saturday shots

C+C always welcome

Re: A few Macro

Really like these Jon, esp number 1!

Re the 60mm - I'd always opt for the 105 because I wouldn't want to have to get so close to the creepy crawlies!

Re: A few Macro

thanks..

Azz i'd probably get a 105 next time. only reason why i got the 60 was to serve as a dual purpose lens. Just recently bought into the nikon system, and plopping down a few k' on the d700/grip (it came as a package) didnt leave me much money on lens...either a 50mm or the 60...chose the 60 since it's a macro, and it's only 10mm narrower than the 50..which is almost normal, and still would work as a portrait lens..

Re: A few Macro

There are a lot of Nikon users that own the 60mm 2.8, myself included. Although the 105mm lets you back off a bit the longer the focal length the harder it is to hand hold with no shake. The 60mm has been around since 1989 and is rated one of the sharpest lenses in Nikon's lineup. Great job on these photos.

Re: A few Macro

Love number 3.

I think actually, if you're serious about macro, own both! I plan to buy the 60mm too - because it is likely to get you closer with extension tubes, if my math is correct. Though actually, I really want the Canon macro lens that does 4:1 IIRC!!! I wonder, do Nikon do an equivalent?

I was sorely tempted but it is such a specialised lens (it is a 5:1 lens ). The effective working distance is only between approx 4 and 10 cm (depending on what magnification you are using).
