Patch's Challenge #4

Ok, I think this exercise in different photographic subject matter has been a success. We have lots of participation and a lot of talent out there. Anyone can edit the challenge photos any way they want, any time they want. If you'd like to make any suggestions on subject matter or ways to improve the challenges please comment.

This week's challenge is a departure to the sea. I snapped this photo on the way to the coast today. I left plenty of room for improvement. Beginners will have an opportunity to show what they've learned about cropping for sure with this one. It's actually hard for me not to crop with the original photograph. I'm deliberately leaving lots of extra room for creativity.

I apologize for the image size but I wanted plenty of resolution for you all to use. Remember, have fun & get involved.

Re: Patch's Challenge #4

Thought I would get mine done as away to Paris.

Cropped but kept in the refection of the barrier. Apart from that lightened a little and a tiny sharpening

Re: Patch's Challenge #4

Was not sure what to do with this so I downloaded it and had a fiddle with it to see what happened, finished up by deciding on an evening light, not sure how well it works.

Edit: crop, fiddle with colour, graduate filter, little sharpen.

Re: Patch's Challenge #4

Tried to do lots of new things to the image for practice.

Tweaked whites to brighten, added two gradients (top and bottom), tried to enhance the reflection of the boat. Anyway I had fun.

Re: Patch's Challenge #4

I'm posting my edited version early again just so I don't forget. I did the normal stuff for me which includes increasing the contrast, using the autofix, making level adjustments, applying my noiseware filter and finally autosharpness. I generally always apply a light vignette around the border and add a simply frame. I did not have to darken or edit the sky at all because of the looming weather conditions. I was outrunning the rain all the way home.

I really like this rendition. B&W suits the scene perfectly. Good job.
