Garden visitor

I was trying out my radio remote release. I had the camera on tripod and set it up here and there around the garden. To be honest it was frustrating because although it means you can put the camera close to your subject the birds seem to be scared of it! The heavy clunk of the shutter scared a few off so for all you nature lovers thinking of getting one they come with disadvantages too! The birds seemed to go to the spot where I didn't have the camera even to the point where the blackbird who is a regular in our garden came and sat on the bird table only 2 feet from me in the chair! My camera was at the other end of the garden waiting for the blackbird to use the bird bath!

Oh well, guess I will just have to use it to poke through the hedge at the neighbour sunbathing topless1

Anyway, this did come into my little set-up...a thrush. Spends a bit of time in and around our garden when the blackbird isn't chasing him away. It's not really fior critique, more for interest but comments are fine. D300, 50mm lens, pre-focussed and tripod, remotre release.

Very sharp on the bird, fantastic shot.

Very nice, I'd like the background a little straighter but that's not a critique so much as me being finicky! I think it's excellent - and a curious expression on the bird's face to boot!

Hmmm...the camera is at an angle to the edge of the lawn. The bird is standing straight up so it is level. The thrush was concious of a blackbird that kept appearing and has gotten quite possessive of any food in the garden. he had chased the thrush away several times. The birds were also concious of the camera nearby. I changed from a very close up 17-35, to my 50mm to give a little more space. The shutter clunking scared a couple away but the thrush although concious of it stayed but was in a heightened state of awareness.

No, I do see what you mean, and saw that it was straight when I saw it first My apologies - it's just that the angle of the horizon makes it a little off, but really - a great shot - and very interesting behaviour too!

As for the shutter noise - can you shoot in silent mode ?

Cracking shot BC, one I wish I had taken. Did not know that thrush liked fruit, mind you no chance in my garden as the hounds would get there first.

Thanks JR, appreciate your comments. It just didn't occur to me Mirror Up. I did notice firing the shutter was a bit hit and miss, possibly a battery issue or interference and the clunk was an indicator the camera fired but yes, will try this next time.

Snaps, the thrush generally went for the bits of cereals, seeds and dried fruit. The blackbird enjoys the apple. If only they could get on together!
