Eclectic mix

I spent a happy few hours in Coombe Abbey and ended up with some pics I actually like...
Some are animal, some are vegetable and some are mineral, but most are natural, or in a natural landscape, so I hope here is acceptable.

No! Look! It moved again, LOOK!

Oooh, what's that big yellow shiny thing up there?

No, they said it was moving down here! I can't see it, can you?

All right, Mr DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up

Lovely set of pics.

Loving the close up and the statues are well cool. Great angles.

Re: Eclectic mix

A pleasure to view Gaz, they capture the feel of your trip and the wet goose is a real winner, just get rid of the little light patch above the back on the left. Well thought out DOF and nice soft colour, only one complaint I would have liked the feet.

Think you have turned no 1 on its side and it just does not look right, somehow the light and everyting seems wrong, the B & W is much better and the subject is as good in mono as colour, again I think you are aware of the washed out sky and have cropped perhaps a little too tight.

Difficult to go through a whole set to offer my version of a CC but I hope my comments may be of help anyway.

Thanks...I hate to say it, but there are something like 140 pics in total...I like digital, you can experiment
I'll re-do the statues and see what I think. And there will be more going online as soon as Flickr can burp them out

Re: Eclectic mix

Happy to look at 140 shots as long as you don't expect an opinion on them all, to give your view of 2 or 3 is fine but any more and you forget what you looked at. Perhaps a problem only I have but my concentration goes after the first 3.

I do try and crop tight to remove any frames of reference, to make the image less identifiable, and make the viewer work...that's my excuse, and I've been using it for so long even I'm begining to believe it

This is another statue, correctly orientated and not so tightly cropped...
Whilst I like it as a shot, it is less appealing to me simply *because* it is obviously a picture of a statue, correctly orientated...erm, if you see what I mean

Re: Eclectic mix

Well of course young man you are free to present your work in any way you like but I found the light on the 1st shot a bit strange, you know if a photo is printed round the wrong way it somehow look wrong to the viewer, no. 1 looked wrong.

I am comfortable with this one it has shadows where you would expect them to be, personally I like the stature in it's setting and think in this case the red tree sets it off well although it would probably look ok in mono as well, mono seems to suit statures because I think they add contrast which emphasises the shape and the depth of the indentations on the surface.

Young man! Gawd bless you! I'm staring down the barrel of 50, next year

Thanks for the comments. I'l try and not crop so hard...it is probably something to do with printing *real* pics, when paper was expensive. Or something
