HDR Landscape Critique

This is a HDR image which I shot in my backyard. It seems like there is something missing, or something is just not right about it. Any ideas?

Re: HDR Landscape Critique

Well I love it, in an ideal world the buildings wouldn't be there, and if you are good with a cloning brush you could make them disappear But, I do really lik eit, lov eth emoodiness in the shot .

You could use the burn brush also, to make the building fade into the background more

Re: HDR Landscape Critique

I like it too

The buildings are not really a prob for me, although those poles could do with being cloned out and maybe have more of a play in balancing out the darkness in the sky on the left hand side?

It's a great shot tho - very dramatic

Re: HDR Landscape Critique

Thanks guys! I will try the building and poles. Although I suck at the clone tool.

Re: HDR Landscape Critique

I would like to see this photo off center with the tree in the left third and the sky closer to a gradient or dramatic clouds. The dark sky is so dominant I have a hard time keeping my eyes on the tree.

Re: HDR Landscape Critique

Yeah that's what it is, I couldn't tell, I knew something was distracting from the tree. Thanks!

Re: HDR Landscape Critique

By the time the buildings have gone, and the poles have gone, and the tree is off-centre then it would have just been easy to find a different tree. That is of course the issue isn't it, finding the right subject matter in the right place! I walked 10 miles or so yesterday and struggled to get what I was looking for. Would be easy if I just removed all the wrong backdrops to the subjects i saw!

When I first saw this shot I enjoyed the impact and overall I liked it. That's the immediate impact. As I analyse it I become aware of the imperfections as pointed out and feel it it heavily PP'd to create an image out of a what probably is a routine scene. So, overall, initial eye catching dramatic effect, probably a little too unbalanced to the left on that heavy sky which is distracting. I think the tree in the middle does actually work in this instance.

Re: HDR Landscape Critique

I think this is great - and I think sometimes we can become too hung up on the little imperfections that don't mean anything really - a shot has to have some sort of soul, and I think removing anything would detract from that, in this instance.I love it - and really think it works for me as it is
