Re: Assorted Photos!

Some of the things you can do with your second photo with the cute doggie:

Sharpen the photo as it's a bit out of focus(soft)
Increase the contrast to add more detail & punch
Brighten the photo to add snap
Edit out the rope that seems to be growing out of the dog's nose
Add a slight vignette to the photo to draw attention to the dog's face

Original

Enhanced

These are just a few of the easy enhancements that can take a cute snapshot and make it into a frameable photograph. Keep shooting, you've got a great eye and your composition and exposure are right on the mark.

Re: Assorted Photos!

Thanks Bob, what a difference! I am going to give it ago and see if I can produce something similar.
Thanks also for the kind comments, I know that my photos leave a lot to be desired but it certainly boosts the morale knowing that somethings are right

Re: Assorted Photos!

I think, if you care about what I think , that all these shots have potential to be good shots if you do a bit of work on them. As Bob has shown you can make a big difference with a bit of time and easy to learn skills. Never work on the original copy of a shot always make a copy to work with, that way you can experiment at will and you can always discard and try again with another copy.

Bob, think you went a tad to far but it is a matter of taste, I like my flower shots on a dark background at the moment, guess some will have noticed Others prefer light colour or white; you would prefer a crisper finish than I would have chosen for the dog but that is why it is best if people learn to PP for themselves because that way the shot retains the photographers own characteristics and any shot they produce is stamped with not only their name but their artistic decisions.

PS I love wire hair Dachs.

Jokingly I'll share a wise saying. "No one is totally useless, they can always serve as a horrible example!" LOL

Re: Assorted Photos!

Bob, because I know you I do not think that was directed at me, at least I hope it was not. I try hard not to offer examples of that type although like everyone else I have them.

Perhaps we should invent our own proverbs, something like "Good photographers are those who know what to throw away"

Pleased with that this early, think I may add it to my signature - may be embarassed by it latter in the day

Re: Assorted Photos!

I'm sure glad my proverb wasn't taken personally by anyone. My intent is not to slam anyone but to encourage everyone by saying that we are all worthy of a critique on our work. I want folks to keep shooting, learning, growing. I keep hearings folks on this forum say they don't offer input because they don't feel qualified. Everyone is qualified because we all know what we like and dislike. We all have an opinion and I encourage everyone to voice that opinion with regard to my photos. I'm a big boy and take it all in stride. Thanks again Snapper for being an active member.
