One last puffin!

Apologies to anyone who is bored of these guys and wishes that I'd go away

I've FINALLY finished going through my shots from last weekend, and had a go at some ps3 processing on a few....I was quite pleased with this one, I had a bit of a fiddle with the contrast and levels, but thought I'd see what you guys thought of it as well

I've never really done a lot of processing before, most of my shots are pretty much as they are when they come off the memory card, but I'm trying to get to grips with photoshop now, and it seemed like a good idea for a wet weekend!

Re: One last puffin!

Much better for not having any white bits blown - but could do with a touch of noise removal and sharpening I'd show you, but you've not got your edit box checked, so I'd best not unless you say it's ok to

Re: One last puffin!

It's ok, I know how to do it myself, thanks anyway. I'd already tried making it sharper but it just looked a bit too obvious.

Re: One last puffin!

Well - I ran it through some software, and it looks a bit sharper (though not too obvious) and it got rid of the background noise. I increased the contrast a bit as well, and that really helped.

The image above is lovely though - it just seems, not sure... a bit washed out?

xx

ETA - also - I think there's a little too much background - a slight crop places the eye at an intersection and it looks very striking

Re: One last puffin!

Well - this is it:

Cropped as above , then noise removed in Neat Image (just fiddled with the levels until it looked right, as I always do - no specific formula for that). After that I ran it through again (because with the trial of NI saving as jpeg makes it ever so slightly noisy again) - then put it in photoshop. Unsharp mask - Amount = 51%, Radius = 0.4, Threshold = 3. Then I went to Image, Adjustments, Brightness/Contrast and brightness of -5 and contrast of +5.

Hope that helps I still think the original is great, it was just a bit... grey looking. This sort of tweaking can really help! I use it a lot to get around the misty days we have here and my bird photos looking flat and grey!

Re: One last puffin!

Cheers Laura...I haven't got Neat Image, so that's obviously another one to add to the massive arsenal of processing programmes that I'm collecting!

Re: One last puffin!

this photo is great. at first glace I thought it was an illustration as the feathers are sooo smooth and the colours are so blocky. What a strange looking bird.
