Re: Loads of birds... Whimbrel, Godwit etc.

I like the gull the best, and the feeding godwit, mainly because they're doing something interesting rather than just standing/walking in water. I still like the other images though (what's not to like about bird shots!), I guess I'm just going through a bit of a "must make bird shots out of the ordinary" phase!

The two Godwits would have been better in a group of 3, but I guess you can't do much about that if there are only 2 of them....why are birds never in nice compositional groups?? Bloody things! I love their summer plumage though!

The whimbrel looks a wee bit soft?? Not sure if it's just me and my myopic eyes after staring at a screen all day though! Lovely to see one anyway, there haven't been many round here yet this summer

They're soft because they were miles away lucky to get any at all really! Birds don't do anything around here it seems. No really. They stand about. And eat. And nothing else

Re: Loads of birds... Whimbrel, Godwit etc.

Nice captures - especially the Whimbrel. Not an easy bird to capture. the Herring gull is indeed an immature 2nd summer bird.

You'd love Cyprus birding - I took out a Dutch birder on Saturday - we listed over 60 species in a day and he had over 30 lifers - one a first for Cyprus (a White-headed rustic bunting). Some of the highlights of the day were Red-neck Phalarope, Broad-billed sandpiper, blue-cheeked bee-eater... unfortunate I didnt have the right glass with me.

Re: Loads of birds... Whimbrel, Godwit etc.

Shame - sounds lovely! We regularly see upwards of 50 species in a day here as well, when we actually spend a whole day out - which is lovely - but none of the lovely exotic things like that! Bee-eaters <3

Re: Loads of birds... Whimbrel, Godwit etc.

Aren't the Godwit a striking colour, living where I do I really should get out to the flats and fens and see what I can find.

They are nicely shot Zounds, bit of a relief after the tiny garden birds I bet, did you have help carrying the bigma?
