Double Rainbow on the Reserve

This is one of my favourites, taken a long time ago with Fuji Finepix A303 p&s camera. It was taken at Mudeford Nature Reserve and edited to look like a painting (sort of!)..

Re: Double Rainbow on the Reserve

Sally - can i be brutally honest...

I'd concentrate more on other aspects of photography, like composition, lighting, exposure, etc.. before even worrying about 'customising' your images.

Azz has posted some useful links on the top right of the home page that you might find useful.

Everyone on YOP wants to see you progress and will hopefully always offer constructive feedback - there are some posters on this site who have followed advice and experimented - and now they are producing some really pleasing work in a very short space of time.

Keep experimenting with the pictures in their basic form Sal, worry about effects later

Re: Double Rainbow on the Reserve

I like the colours in that image Sally - it is certainly different

I do agree with Jack's comments tho, that it's better to get the photography side sorted before worrying about post processing - because you'll just have much more to work with

Also, whilst in this learning stage I'd post most of my work in the general photo sections - as the AOP sections are a bit like a gallery, where artists would put up their best work for appraisal.

The comments in the General photo sections will be more encouraging than critical, and if you specifically want a critique (in the general photo sections), just use the C&C icon - I'll move your latest AOP threads there until you get the hang of things

Sally,

Awesome colours, and how lucky to capture a Double Rainbow

You have an eye for an opportunity I really look forward to seeing your work progress as you get used to your D40

Re: Double Rainbow on the Reserve

Hi Sally, I sort of understand some of the above comments but I still think you have done some good stuff, particularly if I consider one of your opening comments here about postcards. I can imagine a few of your images on postcards.

Not sure what your 'working week' is like, but mine is working and not having much opportunity for any 'art' photography until saturday comes around and even then I often have other things to do. You seem to be in the right place at the right time and live in a lovely area so as the guys above say, master the technicalities a little better and you will have the combination to get some great shots.

Re: Double Rainbow on the Reserve

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice! I really do appreciate the help you have all given me!

BlackCloud, thanks so much for giving me some confidence with regards to my idea of trying to sell some of my images to postcard companies etc. I was beginning to think about giving up on it all, as I know that some of my techniques really need improving and I was beginning to wonder if I had what it takes to become a good enough photographer. But I think some of my images are at least almost good enough (though still lots of room for improvement!) for what I want to do with them.

Sally
Quote " But I think some of my images are at least almost good enough (though still lots of room for improvement!) for what I want to do with them" unquote

Thats fine if you just want to have photos you like, but you should also consider how others see them if you want to progress, as you say you do.

There are plenty of examples out there to study, look at magazines -adverts- infact anything that has a picture. Very few overdo it in editing, they just arn't wanted unless they are for some art gallery or special effects, and then usually only on a commision basis.

The whole art of editing is to do it in such a way that it still looks natural, then I think your pictures will look a whole lot better.

Hope this is of some help

Bazza
