Lens prices increase

Just been doing a price check on camera lens, and wow have they increased in price.
For example I purchased a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 11 EX DG MACRO HSM lens for Nikon in Sept 2008 for £464.95. Looking quickly on the internet the price now ranges from £599.95 to £716.99 for exactly the same lens.

In other words gone up by £130 to £250 approx. No wonder photography has become an expensive hobby. So make sure you insure your equipment, they make a nice target for thieves

I F******g fed up TBH! I have the money, but because I am on a strict budget and need to buy a couple of decent lenses, and basically start again, I need to try and make it go as far as possible and the way Nikon especially have hiked their prices, I may have no choice but to buy a lower spec camera than I wanted Sorry, guys, you must get fed up with me going on about this, but I really wanted a new camera, and it is so damn depressing But, it will be worth the wait but it is torture, when you all have lovely good quality cameras

MS
I know exactly how you feel, I was yearning for the Nikon D300 for months before I got it. Now my budget is blown for this year for another lens, may have a look at some accessories instead but not in the near future.

Re: Lens prices increase

Well I don't think most of us quite saw this recession and falling £ coming like it did. I'm being told that the £ will fall further against some (Arab state) countries and people seem to know exactly where it will go before there is a recovery. I'm suprised how much the prices have increased though and I thought falling sales would make companies drop prices. Interestingly though, secondhand prices have also increased considerably. Computer prices though, and car prices, seem to be similar or cheaper which makes me wonder why camera prices are increased so much? Bazzas D300 was a clear £170 more than it had been a few weeks before and £220 more than it could have been bought a month before Christmas.

Re: Lens prices increase

Wow, think this is another hobby which is beyond me! Single person, mortgage to pay bills etc. Two things that I really enjoy are really going to go by the wayside, unless my finances pick up though I doubt it.

Oh well better get a lucky dip on the euro lottery for tonight!

My hobby photography (and music/synthesisers etc.) was killed off in the early 90's as a single guy with a mortgage and interest rates around 14%! Half my salary was on the house and the other half on beer and women! Many a true word is spoken in jest...

Photography does require an investment, but pretty much once you have your kit now and a PC for editing it doesn't cost every time you press the button? That 450 did should last a few years. I guess it is only if we feel pressured to keep up with everyone else it can cost more and more.

I hope to keep what I have now for a year at least as have so many things I need to get this year and sort out my future in the Uk or elsewhere.

Hey, Perrodeagua, just looked on your profile, a 1973 van...what gives? Don't know too much about 'em, but love 60's and 70's cars...
