Agility, no tweaks :o)

Power lines in the background, yep, wish there was no equipment in the background, yep, could have done with the sun being the other side, yep but...no crop, no lighting tweak, no editing/no noise reduction, just `as is` warts and all, and... I don`t care if no one else likes it, [ well, I do but I don`t if you see what I mean ], cos this is the first one I`ve taken that gave me a ickle impossible-to-explain goosebump

I`ll just shut up and hide now

Re: Agility, no tweaks :o)

Ha ha... Patch, you have pointed out all the 'faults' but the important thing is this is so much nicer quality than those a few weeks ago on your compact. You have done a great job of freezing the action and it's nicely framed. The dog is jumping into the space to the left of the picture. You could bring on some detail in the dogs left with a little work in PP. Maybe a lower angle could be interesting and it may mean the background is only sky?

Re: Agility, no tweaks :o)

Personally I'd recommend you practice on other things, not just dogs.... although your pictures are improving by virtue of a much better camera, I still think fast moving objects are challenging you.

I'd be inclined to build up a portfolio of experience on other objects, to experiment with composition, shutter speeds, ISO settings, etc.... once you feel you are making progress technically, then I'd try dogs again to get the photo you are planning rather than trying to get a good one by chance.

I hope I sound like I'm trying to help - because I am.

Comes under pre-emptive strike To be serious though, they are things I would`nt have been able to realise as errors in the past, now though I`m noticing more on the learning curve to what to look for in advance, [ as much as is possible at least in terms of the equipment is where it is on any given day ].

Thank you so much I`m looking more often now for angles which are more than just a dog in the middle of the frame, one of the things I`m so happy about with this one is seeing where the dog is heading and the balance feeling `right` about it, in the past I would have cropped for the dog to be centred which would have ruined the shot now that I appreciate more that space is as much of a feature as the main focus [ hope that makes sense, I know what I`m trying to say but not expressing it very well sorry ]

I have done a version without the powerlines - but - to me it takes away the depth so sanitises it a bit - does that make sense ? This is the `cleaned up` version, which looks better to you guys ?

You are helping indeed and I appreciate it I only have agility training twice a week at the moment so inbetween, for the dog side of things, I take shots of my own dogs running around in the garden and some indoors for practise away from agility itself, I tend not to post those though as they are usually duffers because of being wildly experimental for getting to know the camera - I`m learning from taking them though, I have a saying when I`m teaching agility "every error is a learning opportunity" and I`m applying that to the duffer-photos I`ve been taking

I am taking more non-dog shots now though, currently experimenting with close-ups and textures, also trying different ISO [ when I remember ], and will venture more into manual focus which I`m hoping to get the hang of.
Today I took some close-ups which are uploading, for those I tried out the light setting for when its cloudy/dull sky, [ because of how that affects plants/shadows etc ], so I will post them as soon as they have finished uploading
