Agility, lower speed, various ISO

Had a one to one session today so a bit more time to mess about with settings, I lowered the shutter speed and played around with ISO a bit more, the lighting results vary, not just from ISO but trying to get better natural light position as well. Some shots were not so well timed I know but this exercise camera-wise was more for experimenting on speed and ISO combinations
I love taking photo`s of this little chap, does it show
*He had a poorly eyelid today so he was`nt as fully wide eyed as usual bless him

[ One of the series I am posting in a thread of it`s own in the General section instead of this thread ]

Totally missed the timing on this one but I love his expression and that he looks like a little old man standing still

Thanks for looking and help welcome as always

You're doing the right thing Patch... experimenting!

That's the only way you're going to get to grips with your new camera, by experimenting and practising and trying out things and tweaking them and trying them out again

Keep it up!

And reading the manual to remind myself of the features

Thank you
I`m lucky that as the instructor I can get close up and try out different positioning/angles without getting in the way of the dogs and handlers, I do prefer laying on the ground to get low shots, it seems, [ to me anyway ], to show better what the dogs physically put in to jumping, that and after seeing thousands of pro shots at agility competitions over the years which look so samey, [ due to constraints on where the photographers can be of course ], I want to make the most of being able to get right in there to try out the different perspectives the show pro`s don`t get to do

Re: Agility, lower speed, various ISO

Nice work, I've found that my D40 is usually not too noisy up to around iso 1000 if I took the jpeg's from the cam.

Re: Agility, lower speed, various ISO

Thank you
Took loads on Sunday - so many I`m still uploading them and will have to choose which to post, I never thought I`d get so many decent ones in a session that choosing between them will be hard for me and that was with, [ or should I say `despite` ], more experimenting with ISO and other settings, I`m loving getting to know my Nikon

Great progress Patch.

You say you "missed" one, are you setting the camera to continuous shooting? Or are you just shooting one shot at a time?

Sorry, I meant I missed the timing, I fired too soon on his approach, I am preferring single shot as it gives me more control/accuracy, [ except when I do fire too soon like on that little old man type shot ]. When I have used continuous and got a decent pic to be honest I feel its due to luck and being a stubborn mare I want to try to get them right through planning rather than just hoping the camera burst times right for the dogs going from jump to jump if that makes sense ?
For convenience I tend to leave it set on continuous but taking single shots out of preference.

I have been using continuous at the mo for weave shots though, [ hence convenience of the setting ], really to help me plan for good positioning to get single shots later on as it helps me also gauge each dogs pace as they go through the weaves and I can change positions while shooting on continuous til I can find what will work best so they are my next `equipment specific project` as it were
