Re: Yeeeeeeeehaw!

Love the first shot, shame the face is out of focus in the second, but they do look like characters. So pleased that you all enjoyed the shoot.

Re: Yeeeeeeeehaw!

Wicked stuff

I like the first one better too, and it's a shame the girl lent backwards on the 2nd, because it makes her thighs look bigger (as they're closer to the camera) although appreciate it would have been a tough one anyway - still like it tho as it spells F U N

Re: Yeeeeeeeehaw!

Some may like the pictures, and thats fine. For me there is a lot of improvement needed, first the background, there is no definition between back and floor, the model looks as if she has been stuck half way up a wall. Next the skin tone needs some work, the second picture looks as though it is plaster cast not real skin, Madam Taussords( excuse the spelling ) can do far better with wax.

When I worked in Teddington TV studios these were the type of colours they used for under 5 year old programs, I would have expected a more mature photo with an adult model.

But hey what do I know? never having done this type of work I can only go on what is presented before me, so my comments might well be unfounded.

Re: Yeeeeeeeehaw!

Thanks for the feedback Bazza, but i have to disagree with you

Of course there is no definition between the ground and the back, its a roll of paper which is all the same colour! LOL You will find this is quite common in this kind of photography. I can find you many professional examples of this if you wish There are however, a number of photographers which add a perspex type flooring to their shots for some more definaition/reflection and this is something i have looked into, but have never gotten around to experimenting with.

The skin tones however have not been tweeked, so I cannot understand where you are coming from with that? They seem fine and natural on my monitor. Im sure Kirsty will be touched knowing that she has gorgeous smooth skin! The only ones that have had the skin edited in some way where Sarah's as her skin was very red on her arms and thats only on the closer shots.

The girls infact are not adults, they are teenagers. They asked for something fun and quirky and i filled the criteria accordingly. Going for more subdue colours wouldnt have reflected on their bubbly personalities as well. You may be pleased to know that they loved the photos and I got a lovley hug in return! LOL

Wether you understand portrait photography or not, i still appriciate the feedback. Its always helpful hearing comments from al angles.

Re: Yeeeeeeeehaw!

Bazza you have to get with it this type of photography is very in vogue.

Joking aside, the aim of these shoots is to portray 'fun' and these are spot on in that regard. If you want a formal photo shoot this is completely not it and if you want true to life then most fashion photographers would be out of a job too - because they have to do their best to cover up imperfections etc (not saying Sam has done that here mind.)

With all due respect, these photos would never be intended for 'you', and I think when commenting on professional photo shoots like this we should always bear the target market in mind. Which is why I often say 'your customers will love these' or 'these will go down very well with your clients' etc

Re: Yeeeeeeeehaw!

Hope you didn't mind and I have asked Azz to ammend the posting somewhat which may supprise you as to my background which I have never revealed.

As for the background, having Visited Focus on Imaging at the NEC for the last few years, every studio stand set up ever presented , even with juniors as models, has not had the same floor colour as the background.

It is well worth a visit to the show at the NEC every March to see world wide top photographers going about how to shoot within a studio setting, together with explainations as to how and why the photos are taken to achieve first class results. When I have watched several they have blown my mind away with the standard they set.

Re: Yeeeeeeeehaw!

As it is in the critique section I have commented on my perception of the photos only.
I have stated many times that this type of photography does nothing for me but I do understand that others think differently.

This just goes to show how diverse photography is, and when one specialises in one form of it thens becomes harder to accept/understand other types.

I have always maintained that one can only really get to know their own articular "Field" and have a smattering of everything else.

This is one of the downfalls of making critiques, nobody who does photography can really understand the problems others in their "field" have to contend with.

As regarding the photographing the "target" market, yes I can understand that, but one has to bear in mind that presenting on a critique forum is not for a target market but for members to comment on.

I hope my comments are fair and without malice
