CS4 Upgrade from CS3. Worth It??

I am thinking of upgrading from Photoshop CS3 to CS4.

I have downloaded the trial and I am impressed by the new layout and features. However I am struggling to convince myself to shell out the £170 for it.

Normally I upgrade every other release i.e. I went from CS to CS3 missing out CS2 but I am sorely tempted to bite the bullet and upgrade.

Has anyone done this and do you think it was worth while?

Opinions sought, please.

Personally I would say no, unless CS4 has something you want that 3 doesn't?

CS4 over CS3 - Steve, I know you shoot in RAW. That IMO is where 4 rips 3 to bits. You can edit RAW files in part; i.e. selective non-destructive editing in RAW, so you can adjust just the sky, just a certain feature you choose.... HDR images are better than with 3 too.

£170 isnt a great deal in the scheme of things for a marked RAW improvement.

Re: CS4 Upgrade from CS3. Worth It??

I made the decision a back in March to go for CS4 and have no regrets at all.

It is so much slicker to use than CS3 and faster also with lots of new featured especially in the way it uses your graphics card for displaying the image.

Another factor was that CS3 did not support the 5D MkII whereas CS4 does.

Let us know how you get on with it Grant.

Re: CS4 Upgrade from CS3. Worth It??

Might be tempted to go for CS4 myself - I've been watching a friend use it the last few days and it looks excellent.

Re: CS4 Upgrade from CS3. Worth It??

loving it steve, so many things are better than cs3 clone tool for instance, you can see a sample of how the clone will look before committing, the RAW interface is excellent too i like the ability to change individual aspects of a print now with the adjust brush tool..and i also like the levels presets and how they now don't pop up in a new window.. very smart upgrade so much more to discover on it i have the using adobe CS4 PDF on file too, very useful
