Re: Doggie 2

LOL Thanks for your prospective on the two versions. I chuckle because if you ask a dozen people which one they like better you'll often get a dozen different answers. That's why, ultimately, you have only to please yourself.

Re: Doggie 2

The original because it looks more like a photo.

The 2nd version is too heavily PP'd - it looks more like a painting or digital painting (like a filter has been applied to a photo).

Re: Doggie 2

I'm confused. Azz this is your first impression of the original posting:"Lovely composition and expression - agree with Polo, it looks like a filter of some sort has been added? Makes it look more like a painting "

Here's the original photograph, with no post processing at all. There's no filter, no sharpening, no noise filter or any editing.

Re: Doggie 2

Depends what you want Bob - something that looks like a painting or a photo?

Personally I prefer the one that looks like a photo in this thread (which you didn't post in the first thread when I commented).

Also, there's only so much you can crop into a pic - when it starts to pixelate that's a sign it's too much, hence people start adding filters etc to mask it (which then changes the feel, away from a photo to something more like a painting).

Personally I would aim to get as close as possible to the image I had in mind when taking the photo, rather than have to make drastic changes in PP to achieve what I want. There's only so much you can do with PP without making it look obviously PP'd unless you really know your PP stuff

In the case of this pic it's just unfortunate that you didn't have a longer range lens on your camera or couldn't have got closer to the subject (or had a mega mega-pixel camera which would have allowed you more lee-way for cropping )

Re: Doggie 2

Thank you for your observations. I generally full frame my shots withoutout the need for cropping but in this case I had a low light situation, a short focal length zoom on the camera & the ISO set to 400. I saw the expression on the dog's face & wanted to capture it. I have Genuine Fractals on the way to me as I write this. It will fix such situations in the future. Again, thanks.
