Re shop closure

Quote:
More job losses in the photographic industry

Jobs to go at Jessops - Job losses and stores closures are on the cards for Jessops. ePHOTOzine Exclusive!
ePHOTOzine have been told that Jessops have informed employees that 17 stores will be closing at the end of February, jobs at their head office may also be going too.

It's another blow for the company who reported a £19.1m loss (before Jessops non-recurring items and tax) for the year to September 30 2008.

Jessops are not commenting on the information ePHOTOzine have received.

Re: Re shop closure

Shame about Jessops. Weird though that there was a report recently that suggested camera sales were bouyant. However, it must be very difficult to be competitive against the box-shifting warehouses that sell via the internet and not many staff or premises to support. I guess many of us do the same, look at the item in the shop and then buy it over the internet saving £50 or whatever. I'd happily support a small differential but mostly it's significant saving be it a memory card, a computer or a camera.

I wonder how many businesses are using the credit crunch as an opportunity to re-structure under the opportunity it may bring for 'understanding' from a public and workforce who expect redundancies.

Re: Re shop closure

Well seeing that they wouldn't accept my credit just over a year ago I can see why they are going under, I've never had any problems with buying anything before and had a good credit rating.

Re: Re shop closure

I've brought from Jessops lately on three occasions and have managed to negotiate discounts BELOW the internet selling price on all occasions.

Jessops have been forced to become more competitive in recent years, but the majority of their business is focused on the low end of the market - unfortunately the power of the internet has them beat.
