Karl

This is a shot I took of Karl the other day - portraits are something I want to improve on, because I know almost nothing about them, and am not very good... so do your worst - but try to be constructive, not just to crush me!

Re: Karl

First thing with portraits is to get the eyes in focus - in your pic his lower lip/chin seems to be in focus.

Then it's a matter of finding your subjects best side and composing for that.

I quite like the angle you shot, I think getting him to look at the camera or higher would be worth a go too. Just make sure you get his eyes in focus

There's actually some good tips in the vid I posted in this thread: How to look good in pictures if you follow the link through to the site there is a good segment on portrait photography too

Re: Karl

Thanks Azz - that's very helpful - yes - I now notice the focus problem, though, believe it or not I did actually focus on the eyes! perhaps I haven't got the hang of the macro lens yet!!!

I can't look at videos unfortunately, our download limit is so restrictive but I have been hunting the net for all sorts of portrait articles, tips etc.

Re: Karl

Part of the video talks about the model too - in how they pose for the camera. I guess trial and error comes into it a lot. Thankfully with digital cameras you can take squillions of pics to find your models best angle and pose.
