Re: Reservoir

Love the depth, the perspective, the balance, textures, the movement of the water down the tiers, the richness - not a critique as I don`t feel qualified but I know what I likes so just wanted to try to express why I really like this shot

Re: Reservoir

Thanks Patch, I'm as happy to receive critique on all aspects of the image so you are as qualified as anyone else.

Leicestershire doesn't have the dramatic landscapes that Phil, DJ etc. have on their doorstep but it does have some nice scenes if the light is about right. See some things on my travels across the fields etc. you wouldn't see from the usual roads and routes but often the light is flat and boring. This required me to scale a wall and drop onto a little ledge to get the angle best I could.

Re: Reservoir

Nice shot BC

As for crit - it may not have been possible but I wonder if using wide angle & getting lower down and more to the left might have enabled you to get the curve of the weir coming right at you. It may have given it more impact perhaps ?

Just a thought.

Still like it though.

Re: Reservoir

BC - that feature has some great potential!! I'm already thinking 10/20 getting down very low and moving position to the left to use the weir as a lead-in line towards the pump house. I'd even be prepared to get my feet wet for the right shot.

I can see some exciting shots coming from when you revisit the place.

As this one stands, it is a bit flat and lacks any real conviction Stu.

Re: Reservoir

Yep, to be honest I think this was the best I could get. It was out of bounds but I climbed over the wall to access a small stone ledge halfway down on the other side of the wall as I knew the shot from the road was too high. It wasn't possible to get down below that and I was still a fair height dangling above the river. Maybe somewhere further back up the road I could get into the land that may lead down to a lower position but it is 'private property' with six foot wall and locked gates! I thought I was pretty athletic and being a bit naughty as it was! I think sometimes when you are there with the sun, the air, the sound of the river, the emotion of the moment distorts the actual result you are left with especially when others view just as it is without that. 'funny, when I look at it today it's not as interesting! Anyway, I knew it wasn't a stunner hence I posted it in the 'Just Sharing' section.

Comments and ideas for future appreciated. Thanks.

Me too Phil - everyday is a school day.

One thing I neglected to mention with such a powerful feature as this weir is as a lead-in line is to consider taking the shot in portrait mode to exploit the line to its fullest extent.

BC - ever thought about becoming a Commando?

Actually JR, joking question I know, but yes, many years ago would have liked to join RM's but nobbled on being short sighted so didn't even try. My dad was in 40 Commando long before your time and still has a lot to do with ex-servicemen.
