Re: The River Devon

Don't mean to sound rude Nero but where did the sky go? it looks a kind of creamy grey colour. Part of the snow that is lying looks very over exposed as well. It looks a nice scene but something is not right with the exposure and colours, can you post your original shot to look at?

Canon 5D MKII
Canon 400mm f5.6 L
Canon 70-200mm f4.0 L

Here's the original DJ, untouched, I took three different exposures and this one was the best of the bunch, the contrasting snow and ice and the warm tones on the hillside were difficult to balance out.

Re: The River Devon

Your only choice then would be to expose for the sky and one for the foreground and blend them in your graphics program, or take multi-exposures and create an HDR image.

You could also buy a graduated ND filter from Lee, or Cokin (you would also need a holder and adaptor as well) that would be much easier and would produce much better results than exposure blending and/or HDR.

I've ordered a Lee grad ND (0.6 soft) filter, holder and adaptor for those difficult exposures

Thanks DJ, I have the Cokin filters and holders but alas I left them at home, anyways it was too dammed cold to mess around, I got back in the car and drove off.
