Makes you wonder

Well I finally got myself a DSLR yesterday, a Nikon D60, not had chance to do anything with it yet due to working last night etc. Anyway I went into Jessops to get a price, £379.99 with 18 - 55 VR lens, so I had a walk round to another warrington photo outlet to check there prices, they were doing it for £349.00 with the AF-S lens , right now you may think this was a bit cheeky but after listening to the saleman bemoning the fact he hadnt sold anything and times were tough I asked him if he would do the D60 with the VR lens for £349 to cut a long story short I ended up buying it from Jessops, I used to work in sales and tbh I would rather have 95% of something rather than 100% of nothing, so was I being a bit cheeky? I dont usually have the nads to ask for a discount, but you know, tough times and all, btw I only worked in sales for a few months before being dismissed for poor performance, when I asked what that meant I was I was informed I was too honest with customers .

Re: Makes you wonder

Wohoo, enjoy the new camera you decided against the Oly then?

I don't think most shops mind if you ask for a better deal, there is a big mark up anyway, after all they are running a business, so I don't think it is cheeky I will be doing the same when I buy my camera

Congratulations on your bargain, and look forward to the pics xx

Re: Makes you wonder

Really fancied the Oly tbh but also wanted the D90, but when I got F90 this week it kinda swayed me back towards Nikon, just couldnt afford the D90 at this time, btw at £399 this other outlet were only making £5 on the deal, what kinda overheads have they got ?

Yes. Take a look at the following thread where it was mentioned after Azz noticed a huge hike in price of the D700 (there is also a lot of news all over the internet).

http://www.yophotographer.com/page.php?t=6882

I was looking at getting a new lens but that one in particular has gone up almost £200 so I am going to bide my time for now - it's not as though I actually need a new one.

Re: Makes you wonder

Nice one Stewie - look forward to the pics!

Also, I wouldn't believe them about only making £5 profit! I doubt they would carry a line for such a small percentage.
