Re: Digital vs Film: The verdict

It' still a tricky issue, The Digital was better in this test, but 400 ISO, was that a fair test? considering the digital was going to apply noise filtering to the shot? They were in a studio so could have used ISO 100 or even 50. That would have resulted in less noise on both.

Where you are shooting is another factor, going to the Amazon for 3 months? you are not going to be able to carry enough batteries, and the moisture will most probably kill your digital. Same with extreme cold climates.

Cost? You can buy a very good second hand film camera second hand for waaaay under £50 with accessories. A full frame body is going to cost what? £1500 min? Of course, if you are going to take a lot of shots, then you willl save in the long run because of reduced processing costs.

Digital has it's advantages, cheap to use, easy to edit or add effects, in some cases you can take video.

They only touched on 35mm as well, no mention of Medium format, which probably would have looked better blown up to that size (6x6 negatives, wow!)

The main thing about film is that it is receeding from the main stream and moving more in to specialist areas, but I't won't completely dissappear, not for a long time.

Re: Digital vs Film: The verdict

Well I lurve film and I just the colours and the lushness it can produce. Not that I have produced anything very good yet
Alan is right, I got a really good Canon SLR and lens for about £35 , and it is a great camera, shame about the muppet using it

Seriously, I think I will always have a film camera now,as I just love the whole process, plus the results are more quirky, with different cameras. I have put one roll of black and white through my Grandads old camera, and I was pretty much clueless, as obviously no instructions, and though none were that good, I can see the potential , Once I have it sussed,I think it will produce some good images,as it is a completely different way of shooting. Film cameras have character

Very well put Alan - think you got most if not all the major points worth thinking about there.

Wonder why they didn't use a different ISO...
