God Don't Live Here Anymore

Got a new lens yesterday, the Sigma 10-20mm. Boy is it weird!!!

Anywho, took this on the way home from work, an old church converted into flats. A all too common site around my home town.

Great subject matter, love the moodiness in it too, great building to photograph.

Now this is a lens I am really interested in as well, I have seen some fab work with this lens, and some great perspectives. Really interesting landscapes, plus several people have recommended it to me.

I really like this! The graffiti really makes it unique.

I bet they have some fun in those flats, imagine the parties on the lawn

And oh, I want that lens too!

Moonie, if you are going D700 you should look at the Sigma 12-24 as the 10-20 is designed for DX. I have the former and it's a nice lens - have to be careful with it though as it has an exposed big, bulbous end (honestly!)

Re the original place in the pic... I really would hate to live in a flat in there...nightmares and so weird.

Re: God Don't Live Here Anymore

the 10-20 is an awesome lens..... I love mine.

you just have to remember to correct over-warped buildings to recorrect the perspective.

Re: God Don't Live Here Anymore

Thanks for the comments, and don't worry about it MS.

I like the distortion the lens puts on an image, that is why I got it and liked the effect it gave on this image so I did not correct the converging verticals.

Re: God Don't Live Here Anymore

Nice image. I think the graffiti adds to the effect too.

Would hate to live there though.

Re: God Don't Live Here Anymore

It's a nice image, but then it's a nice building. I prefer the levels and contrast at the top of the building, the lower level and path seem a bit bright.

I guess 10mm is around 16mm in 35mm terms then? So I guess you wouldn't need a 12mm on the D700 just a 16-18mm would suffice

Good shot, while I like the converging verticals I might at least straighten the building up?

Not sure about the tombstone, looks like a phone number, I would either clone it out or remove the graffiti, it does detract from the rather fabulous building.

Re: God Don't Live Here Anymore

With the Nikon crop factor its the equivalent of 15mm on a fx sensor.

The converging verticals on the building are balanced by the leaning of the gravestone, the image works for me because of the stone if it were just the building it would just be another architecture shot. Same reason for the graffiti being left on, gives context to the shot that it is not a house of God anymore.
