Canon 5dMKII firmware

New Canon 5d MKII firmware released 1.0.7. Fixes the dreaded black hole phenomenon (nightmare for astro imagers). It also fixes vertical banding noise if shooting in sraw1, not noticable in any other mode.

http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/fir.../firmware.html

I've known about this problem for a while now and glad they have it sorted as I will be getting a 5dMKII in a few weeks

Re: Canon 5dMKII firmware

The black dots appear on the right side of areas of high brightness. They are only visible if you start to zoom in to the image. I haven't noticed them myself and while a lot of Mk11 users are having issues with them, a lot arnt!

I guess it depends on what you photograph, but a lot of my band shots have 'bright lights' and I don't have them.

It would appear that the issue goes if you turn off certain filters in the camera (filters that you might not want to use anyway).

Re: Canon 5dMKII firmware

Glad they are fixing it! The 5DMK2 is a very compelling camera at that price point - I'm especially glad cos it means Nikon have to keep their prices down on the D700 or people will get the MK2 instead

look forward to seeing your pics DJ, and yours Alan!
