AMWA Trek Jan 09

7-8 mile trek at Salisbury.

Adjusted levels as the mist/fog was quite bad.

Re: AMWA Trek Jan 09

Some very nice shots there Sam.

Personally, in pics 1 and 5, I'd prefer if the other people were cloned out, I reckon that would really make the pics for me. However if these are intended for those at the rally (ie to sell) I guess they'd want them left in there

Re: AMWA Trek Jan 09

Some good shots there Sammy I really like the first one of Star and Dooby! If you can get one like that of mine i'll buy it (my OH can't get shots like that as they will run straight to him instead ).

How close were you to the trail? Only I noticed that several of the dogs seemed to be veering towards you Unfortunately mine tend to go over and say 'hello' too if the photographers are close to the trail which doesn't make for such a good shot (i'm just thinking about the ones I have bought in the past, I tend not to purchase them if the dogs are veering towards the photographer). What made you choose the Sigma as oppose to your Canon 70mm - 200mm?

Re: AMWA Trek Jan 09

I was fairly close to the trail but it was an open space, no trees growing and basically in the middle of an MOD field, nowhere to hide so wearing black i stood out like a sore thumb, i always tend to be far enough back. I also know all the dogs so when they saw me they tended to run towards me. The trail shots i wasn't there to take many photos as there was only 10 mushers... i was more there to get different shots for "The Worker" (AMWA Magazine) other than my usual racing shots.

I chose the sigma over the canon 70-200 for 2 reasons... one was the weather... i already had the 24-70mm set up from Mina portraits on the camera and the camera had been left in the car, so i couldn't change the lens at home as the body would have condensed up, when we got to the rally i still didn't want to change the lenses as it had been in a warm car and outside was -3 degrees. The 2nd was that because there was nowhere to hide and i knew all the dogs well i could get close to the trail... although i wasn't standing on it... i didn't need the focal range and i think in many shots i wouldn't have got the quirky fun shots i did

As i said in my post to Kirsty, these are mainly for the magazine so seeing people in the background adds to the community of the day... if you catch my drift... I dont edit rally pictures and when people buy photos off me they tell me what they want Otherwise i spend hours editing pictures that may or may not sell.
