Re: Kolossi Castle - Night Time

I shall put a saw in my camera bag!

(p.s. I couldnt not get the tree in - the gates were locked for the night - I had my lens through the gateposts. )

Re: Kolossi Castle - Night Time

Great thing to have on your doorstep How old is it Jack? The tree doesn't bother me TBH.

What is that Sigma lens like ? that was one of the ones I was looking at, for landscapes, when I get my D300. The other was a Nikon. but a lot more expensive

Re: Kolossi Castle - Night Time

http://www.cypruscastles.com/kolossi.htm

the Sigma 10/20 is an awesome lens IMO. I had a canon fit one on my 400 and swore that if I sold my canon, I'd immediately get a nikon-fit Sigma 10/20.

I did look at the nikon 12-24 but felt it didnt offer as much as the Sigma, it is also reported not as good in quality to the sigma, and at over £100 more.

Dont just take my word for it moonie... have a read of this review of a 10/20 on a D300 body, by Nikon expert Thom Hogan.

http://www.bythom.com/sigma10to20.htm

Hillmouse also has this lens - in Canon fit - ask him how he likes it. Incidentally the Nikon fit Sigma 10/20 is claimed to produce better quality images for the 'same' lens.

Re: Kolossi Castle - Night Time

Thanks for the quick reply, it was the Nikon 12-24 I was looking at too, I had read reviews that the Sigma was an awesome lens, but I knew you'd be honest I have a list of lenses and keep checking peoples signatures to see who is using what, and then I wait till they post a pic with that lens

Really want to get more into Landscapes. I am finding it encouraging, that there are quite a few of you, with the D300, and you are all very pleased with it

Re: Kolossi Castle - Night Time

The D300 really is exceeding all of my expectations moonie - one thing that you will notice is that it is definately not a beginners camera - there are no auto modes on this camera therefore you have to think about everything you are doing to produce the exact shot you want. If you don't it will expose any technical weaknesses you may have.

I'm sure you will love it and it will certainly raise your skills once you get over the awe of the beast. Oh yeah... uber glass - this camera craves good glass; anything inferior is well and truly exposed as the poor investment it is.

Re: Kolossi Castle - Night Time

Well, that is me buggered then, if it is not suitable for beginners

I know, it is going to be a massive learning curve for me, being so new to photography, but I am a very quick learner, and determined, so I am prepared for the hysterics I will probably have in the early days. I wanted a camera that will grow with my photography , a body to last ages, and I still am not put off I am aware that I need to buy the best possible lenses for it too, otherwise it is like buying a Ferrari body and then putting a Fiesta engine in it
