Re: Lighthouse

I think it's always tough to get good exposure on a white light house - and here I think you've done a great job....

You've been fortunate to get a good day for the weather as well....

If I was cropping - I'd take out the seats and white bin on the left - a bit of a distraction for me - I prefer to focus on the main subject:

I also like the way the railings take you into the picture when you have them set in a corner... (They lead you in yours as well - but I think the effect is stronger from the corner of a picture)

Re: Lighthouse

Cool. Looks like I have a LOT to learn about cropping.

I thought mine was well cropped, but seeing yours is SO much better.

Thanks!

Re: Lighthouse

I think cropping can be quite subjective - some people prefer the original - some people prefer the crop... It can sometimes be a difficult balance - but as you get better at cropping, look at what get's chopped out - and then when you're out taking your pictures - think about the things you keep cropping out - and see if you can see them in the viewfinder... If you can - crop them at the photo taking stage

Re: Lighthouse

Great pic!

I like both, yours and the crops (probably the tighter crop as it's closer to the dimension of a photograph).

The original let's your imagination run a little, and you can almost picture a few oaps sitting on the benches

Re: Lighthouse

The frame's nice - In terms of layout Azz is right - the tighter crop lends more to the shape of the lighthouse... It's a large tall building, so a narrow crop actually compliments it

You and your imagination Azz - picturing OAP's - I think you're going slightly mad

Re: Lighthouse

Lovely pics, I'n not sure which I prefer the original or the crops, the original because it has more of the area it in, which I do like, the crops because your attention is drawn just to the lighthouse, hehe I think I'll sit on the fense and say I like both

We have 2 lighthouses near hear at Dungeness, I took a few pics a little while back of them and they turned out awfull, your pic has made me plan to go back down there again, very soon , there's also some numbers near there as well I want to snap for the October theme thread as well
