Re: Lightroom help [general]

Oh dear are you still struggling with it

You tube is amazing for tutorials, I think it was Sammy who told me about looking for editing tutorials on there.I have found some amazing stuff from lighting, to doing stuff in Paint shop.

KK did a really good thread that helped myself and Clairelou .

What is it you are stuck on, maybe somebody can help?

Re: Lightroom help [general]

Lightroom hide it's powers very well. Like you, when I first got it in Lightroom 1 guise I was rather underwhelmed.

I persevered with it and now I would be lost without it. I have catalogued over 10000 images in it. All 10000 images are stored in one folder on a dedicated HD which is backed up automatically every morning to a second HD for safety.

Lightroom can show me all images taken for example in May 2007 with my Canon 5D and 70-200mm lens. Or all images except for those taken with my Canon 40D but taken between January 2007 and July 2007 and rated 2 stars or better and have not been submitted to Alamy.

No having to create folders with understandable names or dates, no hunting around for images that you know you have but can't remember the exact date you took them.

On top of all this power is the ability to edit the images without changing the original file, making copies and exporting using templates such as my Flickr upload template which creates jpeg's of medium quality 800 pixels along the longest side and then it uploads it to my Flickr account with any keywords I want to add or put them into a new or existing set. It does this for how many images you like to select so with a couple of keypresses I can upload as many images as I like.

I could go on but suffice to say, if I was only allowed to keep either Photoshop or Lightroom I would keep Lightroom. No contest.

Re: Lightroom help [general]

Jo it is fab, just give it time.

What do you want to edit in Lightroom? What were you expecting to do on it?

It is a great way of sorting your pics out, when you upload them, I find it really speeds everything up.
